DAR AL GANI

LUNAR METEORITE (ANORTHOSITIC BRECCIA)
Libya 27°22.17'N 16°11.93'E Found 1998 March 10
A 1.425 kg stone was found in Dar al Gani in the Libyan Sahara. Classification and description (J. Zipfel, MPI): the meteorite is partly covered with a brownish fusion crust; fresh surfaces are gray to dark gray; matrix is well consolidated; clasts include subophitic and fine-grained to microporphyritic impact-melt breccias, granulitic fragments, intergranularly recrystallized anorthosites, and mineral fragments; chemical and O isotope composition is characteristic of lunar highland meteorites (Zipfel et al., 1998b); abundances and composition of noble gases do not suggest a pairing with DaG 262 (Scherer et al., 1998b). For further details, see Zipfel et al. (1998b). Type specimen and two polished sections are with the MPI; main mass with finder. The Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 82, Meteoritics & Planetary Science 33, A221-A240 (1998)  0,281 gr. Ask for price

ZAGAMI

MARS METEORITE

SHERGOTTITE (SNC)
Location: Zagami, Katsina Province, Nigeria
Fell: October 3, 1962
On an October afternoon in 1962, this meteorite landed about 10 feet away from a farmer who was trying to chase crows from his corn field. The farmer heard a tremendous explosion and was buffeted by a pressure wave. After a puff of smoke and a thud, the meteorite buried itself in a hole about 2 feet deep. Weighing at about 18,000 grams (40 pounds), the Zagami meteorite is the largest single individual Mars meteorite ever found.  0,424 gr. Ask for price

DAR AL GANI 670

MARS METEORITE BASALT SHERGOTTITE
June 2, 2000 Jeffrey N. Grossman, Dar al Gani 670 Libya exact location unknown Found 1999 Martian basalt (shergottite)
A dark-brown stone, broken into three adjoining pieces, with a total mass of 1619 g, was found in the Dar al Gani region. Mineralogy and classification (L. Folco, MNA-SI): cm-sized patches of fusion crust are present on the external surfaces; porphyritic texture consisting of mm-sized phenocrysts of brown olivine (Fo58-80) set in a fine grained basaltic groundmass of tabular pyroxene and interstitial feldspathic glass (An52-72Or0-1); pyroxene is primarily pigeonite (En56-66Wo9-13) with subordinate enstatite (En73-82Wo2-3) and augite (En48-50Wo31-36); other minerals are chromite, titanian chromite,Ilmenite, merrillite and pyrrhotite; shock features include strong mosaicism and planar deformation in olivine, undulose extinction and twinning in pyroxene, and abundant impact melt pockets and veinlets; pervasive veins filled in by calcite are due to terrestrial weathering. Oxygen isotopes (A. Sexton and I. A. Franchi, OU): d17O = +2.83 \211, d18O = +4.95 \211, D17O = +0.26 \211. The petrography and level of terrestrial weathering are essentially identical to those of DaG 476 and DaG 489, and the three are very likely paired. Specimens: main mass with anonymous finder; 11.9 g and one polished thin section at MNA-SI.THE METEORITICAL BULLETIN 84-1

MARS METEORITE BASALT SHERGOTTITE
THE METEORITICAL BULLETIN 84-1
June 2, 2000 Jeffrey N. Grossman Libya 27\27210'N, 16\260 10' E Found 1996/97 winter A 588 g complete stone covered with desert varnish was collected in the Dar al Gani region. Classification and mineralogy (F. Wlotzka, MPI; M. Kurz, Neukirchen, Germany): a porphyritic basalt with mm-sized olivines (normally zoned from Fa28 to Fa37) in a finer grained matrix of pigeonite (Fs25-28) and feldspathic glass (An65); a direct comparison with a thin section of DaG 476 shows that both stones are very similar and are probably paired; however, DaG 735 does not contain terrestrial carbonate veins, and appears less weathered than DaG 476. Specimens: type specimen, 6 g, MPI; main mass with anonymous finder. Display. 56 mm x 36 mm x 15 mm

Allende fell on 8 Feb 1969 near the town of Pueblito de Allende in Chihuahua, Mexico. Carbonaceous chondrites are among the most primitive of meteorites. The most distinctive characteristic of the CV meteorites is the presence of large irregular white inclusions. They are called CAIs (Calcium-Aluminum Inclusions).

Moldau River Valley, Czech Republic. Moldavite is a green translucent silica meteoric glass created by a large cosmic velocity meteorite which vaporized when it struck the earth in Nφrdlingen, Germany, creating the Ries Crater, approximately 14.8 million years ago.
